For me, outreach means truly being present and connected with those around me, my community and my neighbors. This opportunity for pure mutual connection is so rare in the world nowadays... I cherish every opportunity to unconditionally connect with and serve those around me. Service for the joy of it and for the value of mutual connection.

A Caring Community

A Church That Serves

Outreach

I believe in the spiritual potential of humanity. If we want to see a metamorphosis in our world then we must begin with a spiritual metamorphosis within ourselves. The congregation I hope to serve is rooted in a sense of mission that calls us to remind the world of our inherent worth and our deep interwovenness. We are responsible for one another and it is through a greater spiritual awareness that we can begin to embrace this responsibility. Churches willing to embrace this mission are relevant and meaningful in people’s lives.

UU Prophetic Evangelism

This is a recording from a workshop I developed to help congregations explore ideas of missional ministry. In it, I share my understanding of what prophetic evangelism means and I offer a few examples of how I have tried this in my ministry.

Pop-up Church

Over the years, I have led my congregations to host what I sometimes call “pop-up church.”  This has included singing-sound baths in the park, blowing massive bubbles, children’s buggy washes, meetup events to pick up trash, “free hugs” in dinosaur costumes…the list goes on. Engaging the larger community through theater and singing and bubbles completely changes how members interact with the world around them. Members become more willing to see their congregation as having the power to change lives. (And it is really fun.)

Let's build the kind of church our world needs
